Now that you have invested in high quality hair extensions, it is important to understand how to take care of your hair extensions to make them last longer and work for you. We have created this guide to help you with tips for taking care of your textured hair extensions

  1. Co-wash Hair Extensions or Use Shampoo Sparingly

Co- Washing is the process of cleaning your hair without the use of shampoo. In other words, you only use conditioner to clean your natural hair extensions. The best thing about co-washing your extensions is that it gets rid of the dryness, eliminates any traces of dye and odor, and softens the hair. You can use shampoo instead of a co washing agent as well, It is ideal to co- wash your textured hair extensions at least once or twice a week, depending on how often you use them while if you plan to shampoo you extensions, you should try to shampoo them once or twice every two weeks.

  1. Condition and Moisturize

Curly hair extensions tend to be drier than other texture of weaves will require a good amount of conditioner. Deep condition your extensions at least 4 times a month. Do not over condition as it will be counterproductive. A good moisturizing or hydrating conditioner should be used for textured hair as well as a good leave in conditioner should be applied generously to the hair often.  Leave in conditioners  give extensions the moisture they need, reducing frizz free and controlling any tangles or knots. We recommend buying a leave-in conditioner or serum that is of good quality and is made specifically for your hair type. For example, if your natural hair extensions match that of type 4 hair, you can use heavier leave-in conditioners to help shape the curls such as jojoba oil. However, if you hair extensions are inspired by hair type 3, it is recommended you use lighter leave-ins such as coconut oil based products.  Remember use the products you would use on your natural hair.

  1. Finger Combing and Wide Tooth Comb

Rather than brushing your curly extension, run your fingers through the curls to detangle it. Brushing curly weaves when dry will cause it to frizz out and get damaged. When the extensions are dry and you are trying to comb through the curls, there is a higher chance of them breaking off because of knots and tangles. Combing dry curls often disturbs the curl pattern as well.  A wide tooth comb should be used to comb it when wet as the curls will be retained this way.

4.      Air Dry Your Extensions

After washing your extensions, allow them to dry naturally before using them. Using a hair dryer on textured hair extensions will cause them to frizz and dry. If you want your weaves to serve you, allow them to dry naturally. Letting your extensions dry naturally will also maintain the durability and the quality of your curls. If you don’t have time to let your extensions dry naturally, you can use your blow dryer, but remember to add in the diffuser attachment for optimum results.

  1. Store Them Well

When your hair extensions are not in use, you should wash them and store in a Ziploc bag or an airtight container to protect them from dust and other moisture reducing elements.  Apply some light essence spray to your extensions before storing so the next time you are ready to use it, it will be soft, curly, and tangle free. You can also consider removing your hair extensions prior to going to bed or simply cover your extensions with a bonnet.

  1. Straightening Your Hair Extensions

Nubia’s Box Hair Extensions are 100% virgin human hair and is able to flat ironed. When styling with heat, it is important to use heat protectant serums since too much heat leaves your Virgin hair extensions damaged and worn out.

  1. Have Complicated Processes Done by A Professional.

It is easy to get carried away with YouTube videos available on the net. There are so many tutorials showing you how to cut, bleach, and straighten curly virgin hair extensions yourself. Although these videos look easy to follow and appear to be cost effective, always have a professional stylist cut, bleach, or curl your virgin hair.

With these tips, we believe that your hair extensions will be with you for a long time to come. Stay strong, stay safe, stay positive and stay beautiful.
